Creative Writing – Memoir Prompts – Day 14 of 21

Today
Best/Worst Case Scenario
Take a moment to think about something you (the MC of your memoir) might have worried about. Write some internal dialogue, in which the worst-case scenario played out, or — if you’re an optimist — the best.

Action Internalized:
Action in a memoir is essential, even if it’s internalized.

“Action in a memoir happens in the usual place — outside the memoir narrator. That is easy to grasp: ‘The boy ran by.’

“Action in a memoir can also be internal to the character, happening in the character’s mind. It is often used for anticipation, suspense, or foreshadowing. You can create scenes in which you fantasize what something might be like —you can play scenarios out. These are not flashbacks but interiorized internalized action.”

For example
You remember not studying sufficiently for a test. Your MC’s (Main Character’s) internal dialogue as they prepare for school is in the form of a fantasy that could take place in class later that day. The is teacher scolding, the children are laughing, and you are being sent home with a note of reprimand.

BONUS: Gratitude Journal
Day 14
